Which political party does Jesus belong to?
Clearly, He belongs to the party we belong to, right?
For many of us, it is difficult to conceive of anything else.
I have witnessed my brothers and sisters become emotionally agitated over the actions or platforms of another political party above all else—except perhaps the Second Amendment, which some individuals regard as sacred scripture, and others regard as the height os madness.
However, seriously, which political party does Jesus belong to?
The Republican or Libertarian parties and their emphasis on personal responsibility?
The Democrats and their focus on achieving equitable outcomes?
The Green party and its concern for the environment?
Consider this—Jesus does not belong to any political party.
Not one.
The Kingdom of God, is a kingdom of compassion and forgiveness.
It is intriguing to observe individuals who typically do not exhibit interest in Christian matters or religious ceremonies resorting to the Bible, either in its literal or misinterpreted form, to substantiate their arguments or assert the moral superiority of their political party over others.
Nevertheless, it is imperative to acknowledge that Christ transcends political affiliations and does not belong to any party or individual. Furthermore, it is crucial to remember that neither the liberal Sadducees nor the conservative Pharisees regarded Jesus as one of their own. Both held a deep animosity towards him.
If the historical accounts of the Bible are accurate—which I believe to be the case for various reasons—then we, as individuals, are rightfully part of His kingdom. Consequently, we should seriously contemplate whether we are part of His party, which is the Kingdom of God party. This kingdom is founded on principles of compassion and forgiveness. Consequently, the citizens of this kingdom, not our political parties or the government, are the ones who must embody the values of the Kingdom. A kingdom that exists both in the present and the future.
By living as authentic citizens of the Kingdom of God, we can gradually, yet undoubtedly, influence culture for the betterment of everyone.
